The Human Rights and Social Justice (HRSJ) Committee works to provide opportunities and resources for teachers including sustainability education, classroom and community-based projects, supports teachers worldwide, provides education opportunities for children living in poverty, contributes financial donations (e.g. Hurricane Matthew), and provides teachers with opportunities to volunteer overseas (e.g. Namuwongo Project).

Q. Who are some of the organizations the hrsj committee support and work with?

A: The committee has ties with the Canadian Teachers’ Federation, Plant Grow Love, The Humanitarian Coalition, the Namuwongo Project, OSU Children’s Library Fund, Geoscope, among others.

Q: Where can I get resources for my classroom pertaining to human rights and social justice?

A: Here, on this website.  The HRSJ section includes the projects of teachers across the province and their experiences with their students when looking at human rights and social justice issues in their classroom. You are encouraged to share your own projects here, as well.

Q: What opportunities do I have as a teacher to volunteer overseas?

A: QPAT members can apply to volunteer overseas with CTF’s Project Overseas, and the Namuwongo Project.
